IMPACT – SWING PLANE – THE HANDS – PIVOT

Your HANDS are a MASTER KEY in your swing because only they can communicate to you what the CLUBFACE, CLUBHEAD, and the CLUBSHAFT are doing through out the stroke.

When I video my students their swing does not vary too much between shots, but the CLUBFACE does and so does the ball, hence they have no CONSISTENCY, POWER or ACCURACY.

The golfer MUST LEARN, MUST FEEL, & MUST EDUCATE their HANDS, if they want to CONTROL the CLUBFACE and CONTROL their STROKES.

The HANDS are the NERVE CENTRE for all the FEEL of the club, for all the FEEDBACK you get THROUGHOUT your swing.

If you cannot CONTROL the CLUBHEAD, you will NEVER play golf to the maximum of your ability.

I will introduce you to the TAC-TIC training aid to to help your feedback and give your hands the control needed.

Always BE AWARE of your HANDS rather than the CLUBFACE it will be much easier, because their travel is more EVEN and they travel more SLOWLY.

Be aware of their DIRECTION, their LOCATION, try SHUTTING YOUR EYES, suddenly you are MUCH more AWARE of the HANDS to CLUB RELATIONSHIP.

You must FEEL the hands all the way down into IMPACT and BEYOND, REMEMBER they give you FEEDBACK on WHERE the CLUBFACE is, and WHERE the SHAFT is in relation to your SWING PLANE, this enables you to DRIVE THE WHOLE CLUB DOWNWARDS ON PLANE THROUGH IMPACT maximising your POWER and ACCURACY.

Your GRIP PRESSURE should be firm, not too tight, most of my students grip too hard, restricting any movement and creating tension, it is about striking the right balance between being not too tight, or too loose.  It’s about having CONTROL over the CLUB, as you swing, after all you are generating a lot of speed to strike that ball a long way, so you do need to hold it with a bit of AUTHORITY.

The great BEN HOGAN had a superb grip, powerful, yet with great feel in his hands, so he could sense and feel exactly where the club was and the clubface.  In his great book ‘The Modern Fundamentals of Golf’ he devotes eighteen pages on the grip, and the hands.  In my library of books and videos I have numerous pictures of Ben Hogan’s grip, one video in particular comes to mind where he is in close up demonstrating his grip, the key pressure points he used to mould his hands into a powerful unit that would transmit to him exactly what was happening throughout his swing.

This part of our golf learning I feel, has been neglected by the golf community.  If you cannot tell WHAT your HANDS are DOING and WHERE they are at any given point in your swing, how can you possibly be in CONTROL of the CLUB at any point in your golf stroke. GUESS WHAT?  YOU MIGHT GET LUCKY!  You might hit the odd good shot. But you WILL NEVER BECOME CONSISTENT.
